What this guide is for

Indie Coffee London is a free directory for finding independent coffee around the city. Our first edition includes 38 individual locations, organised by area, with addresses, official links and practical notes. It is a starting point, rather than a complete list of every independent café in London.

What we mean by independent

We focus on specialist coffee businesses outside the large high-street coffee chains: single cafés, neighbourhood bakeries with a coffee offering, roasters and smaller groups with their own identity. Having several branches does not automatically exclude a business. “Independent” is an editorial category here, not a certification or a financial audit of a company’s ownership and investors.

How the listings are researched

• We check the business’s official website for its address and the details we describe. Each profile links to the source.
• We write original descriptions and practical notes. We do not copy customer reviews or generate star ratings.
• The check date is the date of the online source review. These are researched listings, not reviews based on personal visits.
• We leave changing details such as prices, menus and opening hours with the shop’s official website. Where a published opening pattern is especially useful for planning, we mention it with a reminder to recheck.
• We avoid guessing about Wi-Fi, laptop rules, accessibility or dietary options. Contact the shop directly if one of these will determine your visit.

Photos and illustrations

Venue photographs are sourced from the businesses’ official websites and credited on the profiles. Some cards use an original typographic illustration where we have no suitable venue photograph. Those illustrations are not pictures of the shop. BeanFade screenshots come from our own app project.

How BeanFade fits in

This guide and BeanFade are made by Quentin Domenjoud. BeanFade is a caffeine tracker for iPhone and Apple Watch. It helps people log drinks and understand estimated caffeine levels over the day. The app features on this site are our own promotion, labelled separately from the directory.

No paid rankings

Listings are free. Shops do not pay to appear higher in the directory, and we do not take a commission when you visit their websites. The ordering is for browsing, not a claim that one coffee shop is better than another.
